❄️ Friendly Winter Weather Reminder from the Auburn Water Department ❄️
While today feels like fall, temperatures are expected to drop sharply by this weekend and into next week.
The Auburn Water Department (AWD) would like to remind customers to take a few simple steps to protect your water meter and supply piping from freezing during frigid winter weather:
1️⃣ Insulate hose faucets – Keep cold air away by using faucet covers or wrapping them with an insulated glove or towel, then covering with a plastic bag and tape.
2️⃣ Unhook all garden hoses.
3️⃣ Repair broken windows and keep garage doors closed.
4️⃣ Install insulation (pipe insulation or heat tape) in unheated areas.
5️⃣ Run a small trickle of water from a faucet during extreme cold to help prevent freeze-ups.
🚨 Important to Know: AWD is not responsible for damage to the water meter or supply piping due to freezing. Frozen meter replacement charges start at $290.00 and will be applied to the customer’s account.
