AUBURN, Ind. -- With the recent cold snap in temperatures the Auburn Water Department would like to remind customers to protect their water meter and supply piping from freezing during frigid winter temperatures. FB_IMG_1736186272142

Here are some helpful hints to protect your water supply:

  1. Insulate hose faucets to keep the cold air away. Use faucet covers or place an insulated glove or towel over it and cover with a plastic bag and tape.
  2. Unhook all garden hoses.
  3. Repair broken windows and keep garage doors closed.
  4. Install insulating /products (i.e. pipe insulation, heat tape) in unheated areas.
  5. Run a trickle of water at a faucet to prevent freeze-ups.

The Auburn Water Department is not responsible for damage to the water meter or supply piping due to freeze-up. Frozen meter charges start at $292 and will be applied to the customer's account.

Residents with questions can contact the Auburn Water Department at 260-925-5711.
