Police Officer (New or Lateral Transfer)

The Auburn Police Department (APD) is seeking a dedicated, hard-working and self-motivated Police Officer (New or Lateral Transfer) to join our police force full time in 2022. The ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic, excellent problem-solving skills and a motivation to serve the citizens of Auburn.

Police Officer Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and not yet 36 years of age
  • U.S.  citizenship
  • No felony, drug or OWI convictions
  • No serious misdemeanor convictions
  • Valid driver’s license and able to pass a driver’s record check
  • Passing score for all pre- and post-hire testing
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

Additional Lateral Transfer Police Officer Requirements

  • At least one year of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer
  • Current Indiana law enforcement certification
  • May currently participate in 1977 Police Officers’ & Fire Fighters’ Pension and Disability Fund but is not a required pre-requisite

Essential Duties/Skills/Responsibilities/Qualifications

  • Assists, conducts and coordinates all duties required to maintain and uphold public safety throughout the community, including, but is not limited to traffic control, response to citizen complaints and elimination of criminal activity
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records of events completed
  • Follows all City of Auburn & APD policies and procedures, in addition to all local, state and federal standards, regulations and safety rules
  • Works outside in all weather conditions
  • Provides excellent and professional customer service
  • Lifts 75-150 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Works safely in a team environment

  • 3 shifts operating on a 5/2-5/3 8-hour shift schedule
