AUBURN, Ind. – In less than a month a group of dedicated youth reached their goal of raising $17,500 in donations to update the water fountains at several parks within the City of Auburn.
Students with Auburn’s Junior Main Street an affiliate of Auburn Main Street raised $18,675 in a month’s time exceeding their goal of $17,500. The students will utilize those donations to receive a matching $17,500 grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. The group also raised funds during a Dine to Donate event at
Mad Anthony's on Tuesday, June 20. Those funds have not been added into the total.
The funding will provide updated water stations around the city, featuring water bottle filling stations and water fountains at two different heights. Water fountains will be installed at the Auburn skate park, Thomas Park, Smith Park, Memorial Park, Eckhart Park, Rieke Park, Eckhart Park office, Rieke Park Lodge and two at the Rieke Park ball diamonds.
Remaining funds collected will also benefit the parks providing new hand washing stations, and other improvements to the bathrooms at the parks.
“The Auburn community will benefit greatly and have a lasting impact that will make a big difference In our quaint town,” said representatives from Auburn Junior Main Street.
The water fountains will bring the city’s water fountains up to ADA standards and could potentially be installed yet this year.
Students participating in Auburn’s Junior Main Street have participated in a plethora of initiatives since its inception.
