Council districts updated ahead of filing date

AUBURN, Ind. – The Auburn Common Council approved the repealing and replacing of Section 31.17 of the Auburn City Code on second reading during the Tuesday, December 20, 2022 common council meeting.2022 Council Districts

The ordinance defines the city’s five council districts with a slight change to District 5. Along with the five council seats, two Common Council members are elected at the At-Large position.

  • District 1 – shall be composed of the area outlined in gold on the Council Districts Map and shall include the following precincts that are located in the corporate boundaries in the City of Auburn: Union 1, Union 2 and Union 9
  • District 2 – shall be composed of the area outlined in purple on the Council Districts Map and shall include the following precincts that are in the corporate boundaries in the City of Auburn: Union 10 and Union 4
  • District 3 – shall be composed of the area outlined in green on the Council Districts Map and shall include the following precincts that are located in the corporate boundaries in the City of Auburn: Union 11 and Union 3
  • District 4 – shall be composed of the area outlined in blue on the Council Districts Map and shall include the following precincts that are located in the corporate boundaries in the City of Auburn: Union 7 and Union 5
  • District 5 – shall be composed of the area outlined in red on the Council Districts Map shall include the following precincts that are located in the corporate boundaries in the City of Auburn: Keyser 6, Union 6, Union 8 and all of Jackson North

Revisions to council district maps occur on a 10-year cycle with the next one to take effect in 2032.

The city’s five district seats and two at large seats are up for election during the 2023 cycle. Candidates can file to run in the 2023 primary beginning January 4, 2023 with a deadline to file of February 3, 2023.
