Santa on the Go event to Replace Christmas Walk
By Erin Ray, Program Director
Auburn Parks and Recreation is now hosting Santa on the Go, a drive-thru lights event at Eckhart Park on Dec. 4-6 and 11-13 from 6-8 p.m. This event will be held in place of the annual Christmas Walk.
While we understand that our annual Christmas Walk is a beloved tradition not only for Auburn residents but also for those from surrounding communities, public safety is our top priority. With DeKalb County now “red” in terms of COVID cases, we knew we couldn’t hold the Christmas Walk without putting people at risk.
However, both the Parks staff and our sponsor, Metal Technologies, still wanted to bring some holiday cheer to the community, so Santa on the Go was quickly born!
Here’s what you need to know about Santa on the Go:
- Date: 4-6 and 11-13
- Time: 6-8 p.m.
- Cost: FREE, thanks to Metal Technologies
- Starting Point: Eckhart Park entrance S. Cedar and Ensley streets
Thanks in advance to the Auburn Police Department (APD), who will be there each night directing traffic. Please note that attendees must stay in their vehicles—this is a drive-thru only event.
Santa and Mrs. Claus
Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be part of the Santa on the Go event! They will be there every night, waving and offering holiday wishes. Plus, on Dec. 4, they will have a reindeer with them! You are welcome to take photos of Santa as you pass in your car.
Letters for Santa
Parks staff will also be collecting letters for Santa if children would like to bring them.
Food Bank Support
We’ll also be collecting canned goods for the local food bank. Canned goods are not required for entry, but they are encouraged as more have relied on the local food bank than in previous years.
Next Year’s Walk
This year’s decorations for the Grinchmas Walk North of Whoville will not be wasted. That theme will be used December 2021, so all props are being stored for next year.
