City of Auburn Advises Caution with Impending Snow

With the threat of heavy snow over the next couple of days, the City of Auburn reminds citizens to take proper precautions during major winter weather events, including:

  • Travel only if necessary and make sure you have a fully-charged cell phone with you.
  • If traveling a long distance, let someone know your route of travel and itinerary.
  • Keep your gas tank full and carry a shovel, blanket, water, cell phone, charger and snacks in your vehicle.
  • Dress for the conditions: coat, hat, gloves, scarf and proper footwear.
  • Make sure your pets have access to proper shelter, food and water.
  • Check on elderly or handicapped neighbors.
  • If possible, refrain from parking on the street so street crews can get through quickly and easily to remove snow.

The Auburn Police Department is receiving complaints concerning snow-covered sidewalks that are either impassible or too slippery and dangerous to use. Additionally, snow-covered sidewalks are making it difficult for mail delivery, utility meter checks, and children walking to school or in the neighborhood. As a result, more pedestrians are walking in the street, which is equally unsafe--particularly in these weather conditions.


With continued freezing temperatures expected, the Auburn Water Department reminds customers to protect their water meter and supply piping from freezing during these frigid winter temperatures.


Metal Recycler Chooses Auburn for New Facility

MetalX, LLC, a scrap metal recycling company, plans to locate a new facility in Auburn, potentially creating up to 80 new jobs by 2017.

The Waterloo, Ind.-based company will invest $12.4 million to purchase, renovate and equip an existing 240,000 square-foot industrial facility at 1101 Oren Drive in Auburn.
