Government

As the county seat of DeKalb County, Auburn is governed by an elected mayor, seven-member common council and three-member board of public works and safety officials.

• Mayor Norman E. Yoder serves as the chief executive of the city, overseeing all city departments; seeking and administering local, state and federal grants; and overseeing all city projects. The mayor is elected to a four-year term by the citizens of Auburn.
• The Common Council serves as the legislative branch of Auburn’s city government, appropriating city funds and passing ordinances and laws. The council’s overarching mission is to use the financial and human resources available to provide services to residents. Five members of the common council are elected from individual districts and two are elected at-large.
• The Board of Works conduct the day-to-day business of running the city government in Auburn. They oversee the development and implementation of programs from all city departments, including police, fire, street and utilities.
