The City of Auburn Department of Building, Planning and Development is seeking a Planner/Zoning Administrator. This position focuses on short-term planning and zoning administration and compliance working directly with developers, property owners and other city departments.

This position is full-time, salaried employment with benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the Unified Development Ordinance
  • Serve as Staff to the Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals
  • Provide direct customer service support in a variety of areas
  • Assist with the coordination of the routing process of development plans and development projects to all city departments and other applicable agencies for review and comment
  • Assist in developing and/or updating informational pieces to be posted to the department’s social media sites or to be distributed in person
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the BPD Administrator

Qualifications/Requirements
The successful candidate will have a minimum 4-year degree in planning or a related field, plus one year of work experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills are mandatory.

Systems Support Specialist - Business Analyst

Auburn Electric is seeking a hard-working, self-motivated individual to join our team as a full time Systems Support Specialist – Business Analyst. This position will assist the Superintendent and support staff with decision support technologies and processes applied in the operation of the City of Auburn Electric Department, with a strong focus on business analytics, reporting, data mining and information process design. Additionally, the individual will work with geographic information systems, database applications, AMI, SCADA and various computing platforms. The ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic, excellent problem-solving skills, be motivated to serve others, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. 

Essential Duties/Skills/Responsibilities/Qualifications

  • Assists in developing and implementing procedures to collect, store, maintain, retrieve, analyze and utilize data pertinent to the mission of Auburn Electric. Data sources include Auburn Electric, other city utility departments, city civil departments, private consultants and engineers, and data capture/conversion professionals. 
  • Designs, authors and supports business intelligence processes, tools and technologies, including but not limited to:
    • Department operations and work orders
    • Utility accounts (consumption, revenue, rates, etc)
    • Inventory
    • Outage management
    • Customer service
    • AMI / MDM
    • GIS
    • SCADA
    • Street light automation and controls
  • Supports SCADA system, including but not limited to:
    • Systems maintenance
    • Employee training, use and support
    • Coordination with IT department
  • Supports AMI and MDM system, including but not limited to:
    • Systems maintenance
    • Employee training, use and support
    • Coordination with IT department, utility billing and Auburn Water Department

Qualifications

  • Preferred Knowledge: Strong understanding of database technologies and theory, business analytics, reporting and data mining and visualization concepts. Proficiency in Microsoft operating systems, SQL Server, SQL, scripting.   
  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor of Science in Information Systems or related field from four-year appropriately accredited college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong communication and mathematical skills and reasoning ability.
  • Ability to acquire a comprehensive understanding of city's civil and utility operations.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Benefits

  • $36,400 - $78,000, depending upon experience

AMI Service Technician

Auburn Electric is seeking a hard-working, self-motivated individual to join our team as a full time AMI Service Technician, primarily responsible for the in-field maintenance of the Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) System, verification of AMI reads and the installation and maintenance of load management devices. The ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic, excellent problem-solving skills, be motivated to serve others, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. 

Essential Duties/Skills/Responsibilities/Qualifications

  • Install, maintain, test and troubleshoot AMI modules
  • Install, maintain, test and trouble shoot single and three-phase meters
  • Regularly read each meter to verify the physical reading with the AMI reading
  • Assist with the administration and management of the AMI system
  • Operate all city vehicles in accordance with local and state traffic laws
  • Ensure assigned vehicle is clean and maintained, reporting all mechanical issues to appropriate area
  • Assist with the maintenance of assigned equipment in the meter test room as appropriate to keep meter test room neat and orderly
  • Perform working inventory control
  • Follow all City of Auburn policies and procedures in addition to all local, state and federal standards, regulations and safety rules
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Provide excellent and professional customer service

Apprentice Lineman

Auburn Electric is seeking a hard-working, self-motivated individual to join our team as a full-time Apprentice Lineman. This position receives on-the-job training close supervision to learn basic lineman tasks in the distribution of electric power, line maintenance and construction. The ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic, excellent problem-solving skills, be motivated to serve others, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. 

Essential Duties/Skills/Responsibilities

  • Regularly work above ground on poles or steel towers using climbers and safety belt or operating man lift equipment, boom truck or other specialized equipment. Uses a variety of underground locating and fault-finding equipment.
  • Carry, dig, pike and guy poles and other such operations involved in the setting or replacing of poles. Inspect lines, poles and equipment for signs of damage or wear and reports deficiencies.
  • String, splice, transfer and sag wire in energized or de-energized circuits and connect wires and transformers as specified or directed. Shorten or lengthen lines by adding or removing wire, using a variety of types of splices, connectors, sleeves or clamps.
  • Follow all City of Auburn policies and procedures in addition to all local, state and federal standards, regulations and safety rules.
  • Work safely in a team environment.
  • Install, remove, transfer, maintain and/or repair cross arms, pins, insulators, guys, transformer and switch racks and other overhead pole and Underground Residential Distribution (URD) equipment using a variety of hand tools, equipment and power tools.
  • Install and remove transformers, including primary and secondary current transformers and self-contained meters; cut-outs, disconnecting switches, circuit breakers and other overhead line and URD devices, rigging block and tackle where necessary or working with ground crew and winch to raise or lower equipment.
  • Install street and area lights, working with primary and secondary voltages.
  • Perform line switching or sectionalizing as directed. Perform emergency repairs, phase and connect circuits under load; perform load checks and balances feeders as required.
  • Route or re-route power lines over, under or around existing lines and structures, regularly working above, on, or near energized lines. Select and use a variety of "hot line" tools and make use of rubber gloves, line hoses, mechanical jumpers, fiber guards, blankets and other protective devices as specified. Work on all voltages as required throughout the system.
  • Assist tree brush-clearing activities, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Preferred work experience in the electrical circuitry or electric utility operation
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Lift 50-100 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Learn and understand related regulations and standards for electric utility operations and maintenance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record or Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) or capability to obtain one if hired
