Training Tower Update

Members of the Auburn Fire Department unload steel for our five story training tower.

The steel for the training tower has been delivered. Firefighters spent the winter months painting and are now ready for construction to begin. Look for equipment to start to arrive around the first of April and construction to begin shortly after that.

With all the steel delivered, firefighters brought it inside one piece at a time for painting. Each piece received two coats of paint prior to the construction of the tower. There will need to be some touchup painting done once the construction is finished.

Once the painting was finished and the weather got a little warmer, the construction has begun. Crews from Dekalb Construction arrived with heavy equipment to begin lifting and assembling the pieces to put the training tower together.

Work continues to progress with the tower nearing completion. The remainder of the steel was set in place.

After all the steel was set, concrete floors were poured to construct a safe surface to train on.

The last step in the process is to build a wall on the south side of the tower to allow for expanded opportunities for training. Construction crews have framed in the walls. Just a little more frame work and the wall will be ready to install.

With the training tower now completed, the Auburn Fire Department members look forward to using this new prop for regular training and an overall improvement in the ability to provide a service to the public we protect.
