About AES

Just as Auburn Electric was formed 100 years ago to serve the community, AES services were developed to help further differentiate Auburn as a progressive City.  Advanced fiber-to-the-premise connectivity provides businesses with unique competitive advantages and residents with consumer services only seen in a handful of large cities today.

Experience Matters

Since 1985, the City has used optical fiber for high speed communications. In 1998, Auburn developed and implemented a Municipal Area Broadband Network connecting over 28 government facilities—this new connectivity has empowered city and county agencies to work more efficiently, communicate more affectivity, and collaborate more intently.

Then in early 2005, AES answered the request of local businesses and began offering high speed Internet, private data and co-location services (Phase I).  In 2006, after several months of study and planning, your community leaders authorized a plan (Phase II) to further build-out the network to the business sectors and nearby residential neighborhoods.  In 2008, City Council approved a plan to provide fiber connectivity to the remaining Electric Territory, and add TV as a service offering.  Phase IIIA construction began in the summer of 2008 and is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2010.  Phase IIIB construction will begin in the summer of 2010, and be completed first part of 2011.  TV service will begin testing in the summer of 2010, and be generally available in late 2010.  Check the Project Status page for the most current details.

What to Expect with AES

The stability of serving this area for over a century provides Auburn the assurance that this emerging services enterprise will remain dedicated to a sensible approach focused on meeting the new demands in the 21st Century.  This perspective will be centered at the community’s level of interest and not directed at satisfying absentee stockholders.

Services are delivered via a fiber optic network capable of delivering up to 1 Gigabit wire speeds today, with standard Internet service offerings ranging from 5 to 30Mbps, and higher speeds available for the most demanding customers.

Phone services are also offered and provide consumers with a ranges of features to meet your specific needs, delivered with crystal-clear clarity and reliability.

These unique services are affordably priced, and all revenues are reinvested back into the network.  Moreover, friendly, local customer service is just down the street—we live and work here with you! And ask about the option to have your phone, Internet and TV on the same bill as other municipal services (water, electric, refuse, sewer).
