Residential Electric Bill: 2000
The
Auburn Electric Utility offers the second lowest residential power rate in
the State (from 1988 to 1998 they were the lowest). In fact, the 2000 rate
is lower than the 1978 rate. By owning and operating its own electric
utility, the Auburn Community and its ratepayers benefit by receiving better
service, reinvesting profits locally, and easing the tax burden (Sources: US
Department of Energy. 1997; Indiana Municipal Electric Association, 1999). Base
Sewer Charges: 1992-2000
The
sewer charge is composed of three base charges: 1) Monthly Collection System
Maintenance Charge (based on meter size); 2) Monthly Billing Charge; and 3)
Rate per 1000 Gallons (based on usage type). The Rate and Billing Charges
have both increased slightly while the Maintenance Charge has remained
constant (Source: City of Auburn, 2000). Base
Water Charges: 1992-2000
Your
water bill is based upon three charges: 1) Rate per 1,000 gallons; 2)
Monthly Service Charge (based on meter size); and 3) Monthly Surcharge (Fire
hydrant maintenance, based on meter size). While service and surcharges have
increased since 1992, the water rate has remained constant. The industrial
rate is expected to increase late in December 1999, while the residential
rate is expected to decrease (Source: City of Auburn, 2000).
