The City of Auburn is set to take some exciting steps to further enhance our parks system. The Parks and Recreation Department and the Engineering Department have partnered together to launch the Rieke Park Trails Improvements Project.
The project—which will be completed by contractor Brooks Construction Company Inc.—includes a new Rieke Park trail. The new eight feet-wide asphalt trail will have 12” stone shoulders that are approximately 2,114 feet in length. The trail will begin on Indiana Avenue directly across from the existing YMCA soccer field trail. It will continue to the east from Indiana Avenue, curving north behind the Rieke Lodge, and then back south where it will continue east along the south side of the Rieke Pond. It will tie into the existing Rieke Trail. Construction of the new trail is expected to start Aug. 19 and will take approximately 10 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Improvements will also be made to the existing Rieke Trail between North Street and Betz Road. Additionally, crews will install a new 1 ¼ inch-thick asphalt surface over the entire trail.
During construction on the existing Rieke Trail, the path may be closed occasionally to pedestrian use. Cones, barricades and signs will be erected to notify the public during closures. We’ll also place traffic control devices and signs at designated construction entrance/exit locations along Indiana Avenue, North Street, Betz Road and Worth Road to ensure the safety of crews and the public alike.
While we know construction can be an inconvenience, we believe the outcome will be one our whole community can enjoy. The expanded trail system will allow community members to take even greater advantage of Auburn’s greenspace and parks system. We appreciate your patience during this project.
